About Draft Animal-Power Network and the
Northeast Animal-Power Field Days
The Northeast Animal-Power Field Days (NEAPFD) was started in September, 2007 at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds in Tunbridge, VT. With Lynn Miller (Editor for Small Farmers Journal) as the keynote speaker, and Vermont's Secretary of Agriculture Roger Allbee for the Welcoming Address, the event brought in over 1200 people from all over the Northeast and beyond. (Visit our
Animal-Power Field Days Photogallery, which highlights many of our speakers, exhibitors and workshops from each year).
Over the years, the NEAPFD has been successful at highlighting the on-going efforts of many people throughout the Northeast region, while supporting, educating, mentoring and building community around the use of animal-power and renewable land-use.
As a result of this event, an on-line discussion forum was created in December 2007, called
Draft Animal Power; Sustainable Farming, Forestry & Living. This website forum features discussions about working draft animals, sustainable farming, forestry, and building community, and it has grown into an international following of over 2,700 members.
In October, 2010, at the 4th Annual Northeast Animal Power Field Days, the
Draft Animal-Power Network was formed. The goal of this organization is to provide year-round educational and networking opportunities, highlighting ongoing efforts of people throughout the region who are educating, mentoring and building community around animal-power and renewable land use.
A lot has happened since October and we will work hard to keep you informed about the growth and direction of this new and growing organization.
